Larry Delaney Reviews Northern Range from the "Country Music News"

Singer/Songwriter Larry Krause from Christopher Lake , SK., is an avowed disciple of the music of Canadian Country Hall of Farmer, Ian Tyson... he sounds not all that unlike Tyson, he writes songs about the same thing that Tyson has been writing about since entering his Cowboyography era, and he traditionally includes a Tyson song in his own albums. This time around it's a tasty version of of the Ian Tyson ballad My Own Heart's Delight. Larry Krause's own compositions on Northern Range , include tunes like Cowboy's Wish, Year's Flyin' By, Fallin', Footprints in the Moss, Shortest Day of the Year and Nothing Left to Do; all done in a western folklore style, and all leaving you wishing there were more to listen to. Krause also shows a rich musical heritage. In addition to the Ian Tyson tune, he also covers a Stattler Brothers tune, There Is You, taken from their 1983 Lp “Today”, and he ventures into Canadian classic territory covering a Wilf Ingersoll rodeo tune Silver Buckles (a top 30 hit in 1979 for Ingersoll); and also brings back fond memories with a solid version of the fun tune Herschel's Hemi Half Ton, a top 40 hit for Jimmy Arthur Ordge back in 1976.

Northern Range was recorded at Riverbend Sound Studio in St. Louis , SK. and features session work by an assembly of veteran pickers out of the Saskatchewan country talent pool.

Larry Re Releases "Shortest Day Of the Year" - download or listen

Larry has re released the popular "Shortest Day Of the Year". Larrry wrote this song a couple of years ago, and it's had good response from audiences across Western Canada. While the song is loosly autobiographical, it is a scenario that is played out in ranch houses. Winter hits, and the work doesn't quit, it just gets a little tougher. The song was recorded in 2008 at Riverbend Sound in St. Louis, produced by Larry Krause and Dave Sinclair. Background instrumentals by Garry Larson, Dave Sinclair and George Pistun, with Larry Krause doing back up vocals.

The Alberta swing into Stavely and the Calgary Stampede was a great trip. Met up with a bunch of old friends and made a whole slug of new ones. The incredible, positive response in Alberta to “ Northern Range ” caught me a bit by surprise, and it was neat to hear my CD being played by at least 7 of the RV's in the park at Stavely as I walked through to get to the campfire - at the same time. The packed house and great audience in Calgary , was a real treat, with lots of folks there taking my music home with them. "Northern Range is available at alll performances, and will soon be available at Parables and McNally Robinson

Thanks to the organizers of the Window on the West stage for again treating Jim, Graham, Mike and I like really big stars. A big thanks to all that came out to the shows, and picked up CD's, and I hope to see you down the trail. And thanks too, to Jim, Graham and Mike for your excellent backup. You guys made the show. Looking forward to next year !

Update on Larry's New CD - Northern Range ......

I am down to 2 instruments left to go onto the CD-Fiddle will be this week, and the last of the guitar next week. I am still optimistic that the album can be released about the 10 of June or so. As all the replicating is being done"in house" at St. Louis, I won't have to wait for the 4 week turnaround time to get them all back. Once the mixing is done, I will have the first pressing in my hands the next day. There are real benefits to "buying local". This CD, and the songs on it, really represents Western Music, and the Prairie Rural lifestyle that we enjoy out here, and I am really pleased to be releasing it.
